PER KIRKEBY
— LARS VON TRIER
L’idea di Nord brought Lars von Trier and Per Kirkeby together at Casa Masaccio in San Giovanni Valdarno, Tuscany, from 4 March to 18 June 2023.
Curated by Rita Selvaggio, the joint exhibition presented photographic works from ARTvonTRIER alongside Kirkeby’s bronze sculptures — architectural models and studies for his larger structures.
The exhibition also reflected the artists’ creative relationship. Kirkeby contributed to several of von Trier’s films, including the painted chapter introductions for Breaking the Waves. Projected film images, photographs and bronzes brought their work into dialogue throughout Casa Masaccio’s historic rooms.
